Callum O'Brien: Product Owner for Revolut
What is your background/ experience with ISCG and what are you currently doing?
I joined the first Trinity ISCG team during my final year of Business, Economics and Social Studies. We worked with an Irish retail company who were going through a hyper-growth phase and were looking for advice on their current processes. Before presenting our findings to the CEO we made visits to the client site where we collected data and held meetings with the employees.
I then joined the ISCG team in UCD where I was studying a MSc of Computer Science. During my time with the ISCG in UCD I held the position as a team lead, head of client projects and also represented UCD in the national Enactus competition for our work with Project Seed.
Currently, I am working as an Associate Product Owner for Revolut where I still use a lot of the skills I learnt with the ISCG to develop new products and tools.
What did you enjoy most/find most beneficial about ISCG?
For me, the ISCG was the best way that I could gain practical experience in solving real-world problems. The projects that I worked on with the ISCG were nothing like the case studies I did throughout my degree. Firstly, it was great getting to work with and meet people from different courses who offered a unique approach to solving problems. Secondly, the work you deliver is not just hypothetical. Some of the projects that I worked on led to an expansion into 14 new markets, changes in job structures and contributed to the successful launch of a new product that can be seen all across Ireland today.
How do you think your experience with ISCG has helped you generally and/or in your career?
My time with the ISCG has helped me both professionally and personally. It was an important part on my CV when I started applying for positions after college as I was able to discuss some of the issues I faced. I was also lucky to meet a lot of great people while working on projects. To this day I am still friends with a lot of the people that I met through the ISCG.
